On August 23-24, 2003 Rita and I traveled up to Gilboa, OH to complete our Advanced Open Water Diver Certification at Gilboa Quarry.  We signed up for 5 specialty dives through Scuba Dew Dive Center who met us there Saturday morning.  Dive Shop owner Randy and DiveMaster Juanita were on hand to assist in our training.  The additional help was greatly appreciated.  Even though we completed our Open Water Diver certification last March, it had been months since our last dive and we were a little rusty.  Our instructor was Mike Lococo.  We completed the following specialty dives:

  • Peak Performance Buoyancy Dive
  • Wreck Dive
  • Night Dive
  • Deep Dive
  • Underwater Navigation

Some shots from our deep dive.  Water temperature at        A safe and successful
70 feet was 48 degrees Fahrenheit.  Water conducts heat      dive.  This sport is
20 times faster than air.  Even with wetsuits, hoods, boots        so awesome !
and gloves ... you can still feel that frigid water!
